Pickering in Top 3 of National Sustainability Challenge
The City of Pickering is leading by example, proudly placing 3rd out of 60 municipalities that took part in the Canada-wide Town Hall Challenge. Organized by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the challenge found ours is among the most energy-efficient municipal buildings in the country.
Pickering has implemented a series of measures to reduce water and energy usage in addition to its greenhouse gas emissions. By implementing more energy-efficient lighting, upgrading HVAC systems, and switching to an automated chilled water system, we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 500 tonnes annually.
Energy efficiency is an important tool for long-term sustainability. Our success in the Town Hall Challenge is an indicator of the progress the City of Pickering is making on our Journey to Sustainability and our commitment to becoming one of the most sustainable municipalities in Canada.
